Macros, AutoHotkey and Mouse Software: What Counts and What Doesn't

Having macro software never counts. Only scripts that control recoil, repeat jumps or aim by screen colour do. How AACGUARD tells them apart.

Updated · 2 min read · by the AACGUARD team

Macro software is everywhere: AutoHotkey for work shortcuts, Logitech G Hub and Razer Synapse for mouse buttons, TinyTask for repetitive jobs. Older AACGUARD versions counted some of these programs by name, which was unfair to people who use them for ordinary things. Since version 0.0.15 the rule is simple: AACGUARD judges a script by what it does, never by the program that runs it.

What never counts

  • Having AutoHotkey, AutoIt, TinyTask, a macro recorder, G Hub, Logitech Gaming Software, Razer Synapse or Bloody software installed or running.
  • Scripts that remap keys, type text, launch programs, control media or automate work.
  • Mouse button bindings and DPI profiles in your mouse software.

What does count

AACGUARD reads AutoHotkey scripts (including the ones running right now), Logitech G Hub and Logitech Gaming Software Lua scripts and profiles, and Bloody macro files in your user folders. A script counts only if its content does one of these things:

  • Recoil control: a loop that pulls the mouse down while the fire button is held. Counts a little (medium).
  • Bunny-hop: a loop that repeats jumps while a key is held. Counts a little (medium).
  • Colour bot: a script that reads pixel colours on screen and then moves the mouse or clicks. This is an aimbot or triggerbot and counts as a cheat (strong).

The finding names the script file and says which pattern was found, so you can check it yourself.

Why recoil and bhop scripts only count a little

A recoil or bhop script is against the rules on most servers, but it is not proof that the player used it in a match, and many players keep old scripts from other games. On its own such a script can make a scan SUSPICIOUS, never CHEAT DETECTED. A colour bot is different: it aims for you, which is what an aimbot does.

Advice for players

  • If you keep game scripts for other games, keep them out of your CS setup and delete the ones you don't use.
  • Hardware macros stored in the mouse itself are not visible to any software scanner. Server rules still apply to them.
  • If a harmless script was reported, use Report false positive and add a short note about what it does.

For admins

Many communities allow binds and forbid automated recoil or jumping. A medium script finding is a good reason to ask the player about it; a colour-bot finding is a cheat finding. Decide with your own rules. AACGUARD gives the evidence, you decide what it means on your server.
